Do A "Dry Run" Of Your Next Sexual Interaction
A Fun Exercise For Giving And Receiving Sexual Feedback
Welcome to Love Notes For Real Life! This is my space away from the noise of social media to dive deep into all the tricky, nuanced relationship topics you're struggling and puzzling over. Yes, it's a paid newsletter, but I promise it's worth it! For just $5 a month, you get weekly+ explorations, advice, and insight from me—a psychologist, high conflict couples therapist, and author. I hope you join the party!
So let's say your sex life is good! But maybe...it could be better? Maybe there's subtle things your partner is doing that slightly bring down your pleasure. Or maybe there's moves you wish they would try.
But in the moment, it never feels like the right time to say, "hey, actually a firmer touch right there would be 5% more delightful." And then after it feels weird to deliver feedback on the moves they just enthusiastically engaged in. Then, next time you get busy, you remember, "oh yeah, that's not my favorite" or "there's that feathery touch I don't love."
Of course one option is to get over yourself and just say it! In a safe, healthy relationship, you can share sexual feedback with your partner (tactfully) without feeling like you have to tiptoe around too much.
But realistically, a lot of people have a bit of discomfort communicating about sex, especially around highly specific likes/dislikes that might feel nit picky or petty.
Enter, a creative activity that you can try at home. I think I invented this one and I've gotta say, it slaps. It makes for a fun date night and does not involve actually doing anything sexual, but will give you each space to share that feedback or desire that never quite gets airtime.
This is a fun one, so let's dive in.
