How To Navigate Your Defensive Reactions So They Don't Mess Up Your Relationship

Recently, I was feeling defensive in response to something my husband brought up. I don't struggle too much with big defensive reactions (he agrees) but everyone gets defensive sometimes, me included.

As I rode out the sensation and contemplated how I actually wanted to show up, I thought about why I was getting defensive.

Not the superficial why, like "well he's saying I did something wrong and it doesn't feel fair."

The deeper why. And the answers I found led me out of defensiveness and back into grounded connection.

  • what my defensiveness was really about,
  • how to self-assess what your defensiveness is really about,
  • and what to do with all that defensiveness instead of acting on it.
