Writing A Book About Love Is Vulnerable AF

Writing The First Draft Of My Book Cracked Me Open

When I dreamed of writing a book for high conflict couples—a book that synthesizes the mindset and strategies I teach every day in my practice—I figured it would feel about the same as being a therapist. Or maybe, similar to showing up on Instagram. Personal, yes, but not intimate. You get my professional self, an authentic slice of me, but not the whole pie.

When I felt daunted by the writing process, I would remind myself, "this is not a memoir. It's not about you! It's just the skills." No biggie.

Just the skills, mkay? Well, it has turned out not to be quite so simple.

Today, I'm getting personal and sharing a glimpse of what it's been like to complete the first draft of my book (coming in 2027 with Penguin Life). It has, quite frankly, been intense, weird, transformative, and generally a wild ride.
