Pretty much the first couples therapy session I ever provided, I fell in love with the work. I knew instantly that all my carefully strategized career plans were about to get majorly disrupted, because no way was I going to prioritize research and teaching when I could be in the room with real couples supporting their very real relationships.

So, suffice to say, I'm a couples therapy fan girl. My husband and I go ourselves, and it's been a wonderful investment in our relationship.

But couples therapy is not for every situation or every relationship.

Today, I'm providing a run down on when to skip couples therapy for the time being (or forever). Because I never want you to waste your time, energy, or money doing work that just won't help (or might even make things worse.
