Your partner is downloading their emotions to you. They're telling you everything they're feeling and maybe a lot of what they're thinking too. And you know you're supposed to listen and "validate" them but it's very difficult to do so when nothing they're saying makes any sense.
Maybe the logic that lead them to the feelings they're sharing is so faulty that it's impossible for you to focus on their feelings, because if only they would rewind and correct their thinking, they wouldn't have to feel this way.
Maybe their feelings are so out of proportion to the context that you can't wrap your head around how these spiraled, blown-out emotions are so-called "valid."
Maybe you cannot imagine yourself or really any other person feeling this way in this situation. And it seems like your partner is pressing down on their own bruise and then screaming in agony. So yes, they're in pain but they're causing it, and they're more than capable of stopping it.
So...let's talk. Let's talk about what you can do when your partner is saying (or sobbing) "validate me," and you don't see how you can do that because their feelings are utterly illogical.
