They Apologized. It Wasn't Enough
How To Ask Your Partner For More Repair
Welcome to Love Notes For Real Life! This is my space away from the noise of social media to dive deep into all the tricky, nuanced relationship topics you're struggling and puzzling over. Yes, it's a paid newsletter, but I promise it's worth it (and it's less than a fancy latte). You get weekly+ explorations, advice, and insight from me—a psychologist, high conflict couples therapist, and author. I hope you join the party!
Your partner does something that hurts you, and then they apologize. And to be clear, you're glad they're taking some accountability. But...their apology does not get a passing grade. It is floppy, half-hearted, or couched by so many caveats that it barely means anything.
Or...you're just not done talking about it. Maybe what they said was fine. But you're still feeling a lot. You want more repair, and you're getting the sense that they think the conversation is over.
This moment is so normal! The process of repair isn't always straightforward. You may need another apology to feel resolved. You may need a more action-focused form of repair. You may need to talk about how you're feeling and what happened. Normal!

But how you handle this moment can really impact whether or not you get the rest of the resolution you need. Because although you absolutely deserve repair, it's a two-way process. Your capacity to ask for what you need and receive it matters here.
If moments when your partner has apologized but it wasn't enough have gone really sour, this one is for you. I'm going to walk you through the steps you can take to effectively request the kind of repair you actually need.
Let's dive in!
